The Source of Keeping Your Word

Accountability Vs. Commitment

Accountability Vs. Commitment ---

How many times have you been in an accountability relationship and failed to follow through on what you said you would do? Unknowingly, most people use accountability to make someone or something else responsible for keeping their word, rather than themselves. They disempower themselves by abdicating their own responsibility to do what they said they would do, making promises to others without generating the necessary commitment to fulfill them. Instead of creating commitment, they create reasons to explain why they don't follow through. The reality is that without commitment, accountability doesn’t work.

It is commitment, not accountability, that actually makes the difference between doing and not doing what you say you will do. Commitment is making yourself responsible to keep your word whether someone or something else holds you accountable or not.

The power you need to create the actions you desire is located inside of you and is accessed through making a sincere commitment. Once you are committed, accountability can be useful as an expression of your commitment, but it holds no power to generate new action in and of itself.

Commitment is making yourself responsible to keep your word whether someone or something else holds you accountable or not.

When you find yourself not keeping your word with those to whom you are accountable, what's missing isn’t the accountability—it’s your sincere commitment. And that can be generated in an instant.

May you prosper in every way!
